Some of our recent events include happy hour meet-ups (6 o'clock on the 6th of each month), a charity dog wash, Habitat for Humanity volunteering, board game nights, highway clean-up, brewery tour, coffee tasting, Nothing but Nets Malaria Prevention Fundraiser, Humane Society Volunteer Night, Meals on Wheels volunteering, Community Kitchen volunteering, Salvation Army Bell Ringing, Improv Night, wine tasting at HPI, golf lessons, and the big Murphy Park Improvement Project.
One big service project in 2016 was a luggage drive for the kids at Francis Lauer Youth Services. We are planning a repeat event of that soon (fall 2017).
A new on-going individual development activity we started in summer 2016 is our bi-monthly book club. Members take turns picking a book for the group to read and then we discuss it after our regular Jaycees meeting. Visit the Mason City Jaycees Book Club Facebook group for more info. Anyone is welcome to join!
If you're looking for information on the Murphy Park Improvement Project, our most ambitious project of last year, please check out the Friends of Murphy Park Facebook page.
The Mason City Junior Chamber (the Jaycees) organization is a constructive action organization of young people aged 21-40 centered on promoting community engagement through volunteerism and service, as well as social and individual development opportunities. We are a diverse group of young professionals who want to impact positive change on our community, better ourselves, and make new friends in Mason City.
Meetings are held once a month (4th Tuesday) at 6 pm in the Mason City Public Library's large study room at 225 2nd St SE. Member or not, everyone is welcome to join us! Feel free to come to a meeting and get to know our organization! Another great way to get more familiar with the Jaycees is to like our Facebook page, which we update frequently.
